For nearly fifteen days, in appalling conditions, the Commonwealth Division fought against the overwhelming odds of the Chinese Army. Repulsing wave after wave of ferocious and frenzied Communist attack, the British held out with such determination, skill and bravery that the Chinese finally had to admit defeat. This book is a brilliantly documented and vivid account of the history surrounding the Battle of the Hook. It was perhaps the most important battle of the Korean War, and was certainly the best example of infantry warfare and classical set-piece strategy since the First World War. It was also probably the last.
